City break
Packing a city-break wardrobe into one small bag
A compact travel system for repeated walking, changing weather, and evenings that need more polish.
01
Build around the walking shoe
Choose the shoe before the trousers. It must be comfortable for a full day, resistant to ordinary weather, and restrained enough for dinner. Once that is fixed, select trouser lengths and widths that sit cleanly over it. A second pair is optional; a second pair that serves the same purpose is wasted luggage.
02
Pack a controlled palette
Three main colours are enough for a short trip. Let every top work with every trouser, then add one accent through a knit or scarf. Darker trousers tolerate travel better, while a lighter top keeps repeated outfits from looking identical in photographs. Avoid packing complete looks that cannot exchange pieces.
03
Wear the difficult layer
The heaviest shoe and outer layer belong on your body during travel. In the bag, roll knitwear, fold structured shirts carefully, and use empty shoe space for socks. A packable umbrella earns its place more often than a speculative third jacket. Check the actual itinerary before adding clothes for imagined events.
