Summer wedding

A summer wedding outfit that stays composed

How to balance ceremony, heat, photographs, and a long day without defaulting to a heavy navy suit.

01

Start with the room, not the weather app

A garden ceremony and a hotel ballroom ask for different clothes even when the temperature is identical. Read the invitation for the venue, time, and dress language. A daytime outdoor wedding usually gives you room for softer construction and lighter colour. An evening reception needs enough contrast and polish to hold up after sunset.

02

Let cloth do the cooling

Choose an open weave before choosing the lightest possible colour. High-twist wool, linen blends, and breathable cotton tailoring release heat better than dense cloth. A half-lined jacket helps, but fit matters too. Leave enough room through the chest and back for air to move, then keep the trouser line clean rather than tight.

03

Build in a graceful second half

The outfit should still work when the jacket comes off. A shirt with a considered collar, opaque cloth, and sleeves that roll neatly will carry the evening. Loafers or restrained derbies handle grass and a dance floor better than fragile dress shoes. Keep accessories quiet so the texture of the clothes does the work.
